Common questions

How many URLs can a sitemap hold?

Up to 50,000 URLs or 50 MB uncompressed per file. Larger sites need a sitemap index.

Do priority and changefreq matter?

Google has said it ignores both. lastmod is still useful when it is accurate.

Should redirects be in the sitemap?

No. List only canonical, indexable URLs; redirects and 404s waste crawl budget.
