Common questions

Will these rules work on Nginx?

No. Nginx does not read .htaccess. The equivalent settings belong in the server block.

Why did my site break after editing .htaccess?

A syntax error or a rewrite loop. Keep a backup and test with a private window before deploying.

Do I need mod_rewrite enabled?

Rewrite rules require it. Header and compression directives need mod_headers and mod_deflate respectively.
