Common questions
Is SHA-512 better than SHA-256?
It produces a longer digest but is not automatically more secure for every use. Both are fine for integrity; choose one consistently.
Why is SHA-512 sometimes slower?
On 64-bit hardware it is usually fast, but some embedded platforms process it less efficiently than SHA-256.
Should I truncate the output?
Only if a system specifies a truncation rule. Arbitrary truncation weakens the guarantee.
