About this tool
Generate an MD5 digest for checksums and legacy comparisons. MD5 is broken for security purposes.
MD5 Hash Generator is part of the TmpMailer Security & Encryption set — free browser utilities that open instantly, need no account, and pair well with a temporary-email workflow when you just need a quick result.
Common use cases
- Matching a legacy file checksum.
- Generating a stable cache key.
- Verifying that an input did not change.
Common questions
Is MD5 safe for passwords?
No. It is fast and unsalted, so it is trivial to brute-force. Use bcrypt or Argon2.
Why do some systems still use MD5?
Legacy compatibility. It is acceptable for non-security checksums, not for signatures.
Can MD5 collisions be created?
Yes, practical collisions exist. That is why certificate authorities and security tooling moved away from it.
