How to use
- Enter the plaintext or ciphertext.
- Provide a key of the correct length.
- Choose encrypt or decrypt and copy the result.
About this tool
Encrypt or decrypt text with AES using a key and mode, for learning and controlled test data.
AES Encrypt/Decrypt is part of the TmpMailer Security & Encryption set — free browser utilities that open instantly, need no account, and pair well with a temporary-email workflow when you just need a quick result.
Common use cases
- Understanding symmetric encryption.
- Encrypting a test payload.
- Checking an AES implementation against known vectors.
Common questions
Is this suitable for production secrets?
Use a vetted library with authenticated encryption (AES-GCM), a random IV and proper key management. Browser demos are for learning.
What key length should I use?
AES-256 with a 32-byte key is the common modern choice. Never reuse a key across unrelated systems.
Why does the ciphertext look different each time?
A random IV is used per encryption. You must store the IV with the ciphertext to decrypt later.
