Using a temporary email for online shopping
Keep order confirmations separate from marketing mail
Retail signups are one of the fastest ways to fill an inbox: newsletters, “10% off” lists, abandoned-cart reminders and partner offers. A disposable address stops most of that — if you use it for the right step.
Good uses
- Browsing a store that requires an account to see prices.
- Grabbing a one-time discount code.
- Entering a giveaway or competition you expect to be noisy.
Where a permanent address is safer
Anything tied to money or delivery should use an inbox you can always reach:
- Order confirmations and shipping updates.
- Returns, refunds and warranty claims.
- Receipts you may need for expenses or taxes.
A simple split
Use a temporary inbox to test or browse, and a permanent address (or an alias that forwards to it) for the actual purchase. If a store only accepts a durable address, give it one — it is a signal that receipts and support mail will follow.
The principle is the same as everywhere else: separate exploration from commitment. Disposable email is for the first; a real address you control is for the second.
