Temporary email for Amazon signups
Where it helps and where it will cost you
Amazon is not a one-off signup. It holds order history, delivery addresses, payment methods and returns. That changes how you should think about the email on the account.
Where a burner address is fine
- Browsing or comparing prices on a marketplace you may not buy from.
- A one-time coupon or newsletter signup.
- Testing how the signup flow behaves.
Where it will hurt
Amazon needs a reachable address for order confirmations, shipping updates, returns and account recovery, and it usually asks for a phone number too. If the address expires, you can lose access to the account and everything on it.
The practical split
Use a temporary inbox for the newsletter. Register the actual shopping account with a permanent email you control, then turn on two-factor authentication. The cost of getting this wrong — a locked account with a card attached — is much higher than a little marketing mail.
