How to avoid spam when you sign up for free trials

Keep the trial, skip the marketing avalanche

Free trials are useful, but the email you hand over often outlives the trial by years. The address gets added to a newsletter, shared with partners, or passed to a retargeting tool. A disposable address lets you keep the trial and skip the follow-up.

Where trial spam comes from

  • Marketing lists you were opted into at signup.
  • Partner or “carefully selected” third-party mail.
  • Re-engagement campaigns long after the trial ends.

The simple fix

  1. Generate a disposable address from the Temporary Email page.
  2. Use it for the trial signup and the verification step.
  3. Keep the inbox open only as long as you need the trial.

When the trial ends, the address does too — and the marketing mail has nowhere to go.

When not to do this

If a trial involves billing, a subscription you plan to keep, or data you need to recover, use a permanent address. Trials that will turn into paid accounts should be reachable for receipts, renewals and password resets.

Use disposability as a way to separate evaluation from commitment, not as a way to abandon something you actually rely on.
