About Base64 Encoder & Decoder

Encode text or files to Base64 and decode them back. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption — anyone can reverse it.

How to use Base64 Encoder & Decoder

  1. Choose encode or decode.
  2. Paste text, or drop a file for encoding.
  3. Copy the output and verify padding if another system rejects it.

Common use cases

  • Embedding a small image as a data URI.
  • Inspecting a Base64 value from an authentication header.
  • Passing binary data through a text-only channel.

Common questions

Is Base64 secure?
No. It is reversible encoding with no key. Use encryption when the content must stay confidential.
Why does my decoded text look broken?
The source was probably binary, or the string used URL-safe Base64 with different characters. Check the alphabet and padding.
Does Base64 make data larger?
Yes, roughly 33% larger because three bytes become four characters.
