How to keep your inbox spam-free
Fewer streams of mail beats better filtering
Most spam is not mysterious. It comes from addresses you gave out and lists you were added to. A short routine keeps the inbox you actually read surprisingly clean.
1. Separate the addresses
One permanent address for people and important services. A disposable address for anything you are only trying. An alias for services you keep but want to silence later.
2. Do not tick the marketing box
It is often pre-ticked. Read the form before you submit it — unchecking one box prevents months of mail.
3. Unsubscribe, do not just delete
Deleting keeps the list alive. Use the unsubscribe link; reputable senders honour it.
4. Use disposable addresses for trials
When the trial ends, the address expires and its marketing mail has nowhere to go. A temporary inbox costs nothing and takes seconds.
5. Never reply to obvious spam
Replying confirms the address is live and read. Delete it and move on.
None of this is complicated, but it compounds. A few habits keep the inbox usable for years.
